week of December 9th to 13th

Grade 1 and Grade 2
This week we learned the song: What do you Want for Christmas? by Super Simple Songs. Then I asked the students what they wanted for Christmas and they then drew what they wanted. We will then present what they want to the group during the next week.

Grade 3
We are working on a reading comprehension evaluation this week and next week. We read the text one time last week and this week we will reread the text then they will complete the questions. The kids will have time to complete it this week. Then I will be correcting it during the holidays.

Week of November 18th to 22nd

Grade 1
This week the students read the book Brown bear, Brown Bear what do you see? by Eric Carle. The students had to know the colours of the animals and the animals. They read the story with the teacher then had to put back the animals in order. They then had an activity page to complete.

Grade 2
This week the students worked on a snowman and the body parts needed for a snowman. They practiced the song I'm a little snowman by Super Simple Songs. Here is the link for you to practice at home!

Grade 3
This week we continued working on prepositions and had to talk with their partner of the different places the characters were hidden on the page. They worked well.

week of November 11 to 13th

This week was a small week as we only had three days of school!

Grade 1
This week my intern Miss Alexandra took over the class and she continued working on colours and read the book "Pete the cat and his 4 groovy buttons'' by James Dean. The students then had to work together to complete the Pete the Cat colouring page.

Grade 2
This week we worked on the book 'Pete the Cat loves his White Shoes' by James Dean. The students love these books! The students then had to complete a work page sequencing the order in which Pete stepped into things and what colour his shoes became.

Grade 3
This week we worked on Prepositions in English. The kids will continue working on this next week too.

week of November 4th to 8th

Grade 1
We are going back to what we started working on at the beginning of the school year so we returned to COLOURS! The kids had to become colour detectives and find the colours in the classroom. We then worked with the Super Simple Song I see something Blue song. The kids are now expert colour finders!

Grade 2
This week we worked on the book Room on a Broom by Julia Donaldson. The kids met a few animals that wanted room on the withche's broom and had quite an adventure! Ask your kids about the story and hopefully they can tell you about it!

Grade 3
We started a new unit on SUper powers! we are going to have fun!!!

week of October 21st to 25th

Grade 1
This week we worked on the song Knock Knock trick or treat by Super Simple Songs. The kids then coloured a mask about the different costumes we saw in the songs. I then tied their mask and they got to bring them home.

Grade 2
This week we worked on the book I want a Monster By Elise Gravel. The book is about a little girl who wants a pet monster. It is very cute! The kids will then be working on their own monster they would like to have using the vocabulary we saw in the text. They will then have to draw their monster.

Grade 3
This week was the writing part of the unit we have been working on. The kids had to write their own creature. We worked on the rough draft, then I corrected it and now the kids should be finishing their good copy and drawing by next Wednesday. This too will be a grade that will be used for the second report card. It was a bit difficult for some students but we will be practicing with more texts from now till March.

Week of October 14th to 18th

Grade 1
This week we worked on our Halloween theme with the book There was an old lady who swallowed a Bat. The kids learned words like goblin, witch, cat, wizard etc. We then did an activity to review what we saw and understood of the story. The kids were great and really enjoyed the book.

Grade 2
This week we read the book Monsters love Colours. The kids reviewed the primary colours then by mixing two colours together they can make another colour. The students saw that yellow and blue make green, blue and red make purple and that red and yellow make orange. The kids then had to chose their two colours to mix and colour their own monster.

Grade 3
This week we had a little reading comprehension evaluation. We read the story twice then, worked on on the vocabulary and the meaning of the text. The kids then did the test after the second reading of the text and most of the students did really well. This test will count in the 2nd report card so they will have more evaluations added to bring up their grade if they had a hard time on the first test.

week of October 7th to 11th

Grade 1
This week we read the story Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman. It is the story of a witch who wants to eat pumpkin pie and plants a pumpkin seed. A big pumpkin grows and it is time to cultivate it. She pulls, pulls, pulls on the pumpkin but it does not come off the vine. Ask your kids who comes next to help her pull her pumpkin from the vine. Will she ever be able to eat pumpkin pie?

Grade 2
This week we worked on the story Monsters go to School. We looked at the behavior that monsters have in school and the behavior kids should have in school. The kids had to then categorize the correct behavior. They did really well.

Grade 3
This week we are preparing for a reading comprehension activity. We read the text one time and the kids had to use their reading strategies to understand the text. We will reread the text another time then they will have a reading comprehension test that I will be evaluating. I am sure they will do really well.

Week of September 30th to October 4th

Grade 1
This week we saw and practiced the song Go Away! by Super Simple Songs. The kids loved it! We started working on our Halloween vocabulary and that we will do for the month of October. Here is the link to the song:

Grade 2
This week we worked on school rules and what we can or can't do in school. We read the book David Goes to School by David Shannon. It is a great book that the kids always love to look at and listen to. David is always making bad choices and he is getting in trouble at school. I have the students tell me 'Yes David ' or 'No David' during the reading. They are very good! Then we did an activity page where the kids had to circle the correct behaviour and put an X on the bad behaviour. They did very well.


Grade 3
This week we continued working on our body parts and we are building the vocabulary to write our text. Some of the classes also worked on adjectives to use with their body parts as to add information to their text to make it richer and more interesting. The kids are doing very well and I'm really enjoying the groups!

Week of September 23rd to 27th

Grade 1
This week we read the story What Colour is your Underwear by Sam Lloyd. We reviewed colours by looking at what colour where the animal's underwear. The kids loved the book. Ask them what colour where the elephant's underwear!

Grade 2
This week we read the book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. It is the story about how someone's crayons went on strike and did not want to work anymore! So the student read all of his crayons letters of complaint and then found a solution to take care of the problems. It is a really cute book to review colours in second grade. We then wrote our own letter telling our favourite crayon why we don't want them to go on strike!

Grade 3
Ped Day on Wedneday so I only saw a group or two of grade 3s this week. We are continuing our activity book and we are working on the them of body parts.

Week of September 16th to 20th

This Wednesday, I went to pick up little Tulip. A young black Labernese 8week old puppy. The kids already love her! She has many admirers!

Grade 1: This week we worked on colours and learned the colour song. It goes like this is you want to practice it at home with them or even better have them show you how good they are!

Grade 2
We also worked with colours and read the story: The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. The kids then have to complete a letter to their favourite crayon and give them 3 reasons why they need them to continue working. The kids were really great.

Grade 3
We started a new unit and we will work on vocabulary related to body parts. We will have to write a small description of a new video game character and have a drawing of our new character. They are really strong groups and we are moving along the book quickly! Great work everyone!

Week of September 9th to 13th

Great news!! We are finally getting a MIRA dog. I will be picking him/her up on Wednesday the 18th of September so the students will be getting to see the puppy soon. They were very happy to hear the news!
For the classes that have an allergic student the dog will be sent to the class of Miss Ioana or another classroom as to not disturb the student with allergies. Thank you for your support with this wonderful project.

Grade 1
This week we learned to say hello and how are you in English as a part of the classroom routine. We will be using these words a lot so I encourage the kids to use them and practice them as much as we can even when I see them outside of class! They are getting so good!

Grade 2
This week I asked the students to share with me their summer vacation. They wrote a sentence about their vacation and then they drew that memory. We then had them present each of their vacation to the class in English of course! They did so well and they all really enjoyed their summer!

Grade 3
This week we continued working on our school object vocabulary and will continue with this theme for a few more classes. I will be sending them some words to study as well as some work to be done in their Activity book. Please encourage them to do their homework and study their words. A test will be given at the end of the unit.

Week of March 18th to 22nd

Grade 1
This past week we worked on the book "Froggy gets dressed" by Jonathan London. The book goes over the clothes that we wear in the winter and it is a funny, cute story. The students always love this book. We then worked on learning these clothes with an activity page.

Grade 2
The students are working on the seasons in English. These next few weeks we will be working on seasons, days of the week, months of the year, clothes. I will be evaluating them at the end of this unit. More information will follow.

Grade 3
This last week we worked on clothing and we played a game of BINGO. The kids had a lot of fun.

week of March 12th to 15th

Grade 1
This week we learned the song "Twinkle, twinkle little star". The kids LOVED it! We also made a star (in their transparent pocket of their agenda) that they can show you how well they know the song. Here is the link to the song for them to sing along.

Grade 2
Last week we started talking about seasons and what is the temperature. We are going to make a season booklet with all of this information. This will be over the course of a couple of classes as they have to cut and glue and colour quite a bit!

Grade 3
We are starting a new unit on clothing this term. We just started and are going to work on adjectives, clothes, seasons and more.

Week of February 18th to 22nd

Grade 1
This week the students continued working on the weather and the vocabulary we use when talking about the weather in English. We read the book Maisy's wonderful weather book by Lucy Cousins. We then did an activity page where the students had to draw a line from the word to the correct image. The students did very well. We then had a little time to colour that activity page.

Grade 2
The students are working on clothing and when do we wear them. If it is hot/cold outside we wear different clothing items. The students had to categorize the clothing and put them under the correct column. They did very well.

Grade 3
The students are working on their final project: a written task. The students have done the rough draft and they now have to work on the final draft and I will be correcting them as they will be used to put a grade in the report card. They also had another written task a few months ago and a few written tasks that will be counting as well.

Week of February 11th to February 15th

Well we did not have a normal week last week as we had a snow day and two pedagogical days! So I only saw a few classes for thirty minutes last week. We worked and played a game of build a snowman with the grade 2 students and my grade 1 students had the time to finish their weather wheel. The kids got to bring them home.

February 4th to February 8th

Grade 1
This week we worked on making a snowman vocabulary. We sang the song I'm a little snowman by super simple songs. The kids really enjoy the singing! They are so cute when they participate! Here is the link if you want to practice with your kids! Enjoy

Grade 2
This week we worked on Sneezy the snowman and his bad choices. We invented 3 new things that would be too hot for our snowman and make him melt again! The kids have a super imagination! They came up with super ideas! I was so proud of them!
They worked very well.
We also played a dice game to build a snowman. The students had to play two by two and the first one to draw a snowman won. They got to practice game playing words like: It's my turn, It's your turn, wait a minute, roll the di etc... They loved it!


Grade 3
We read a text on superpowers and the students had to answer questions related to this text. The students will get the next class to finish answering the questions then they will start the new project of making a new superhero and invent his/her super powers. It will be great!

Grade 1
The Bring a Bear activity was changed tp this week as we had a snow day the week before. We sang and learned the song 'Teddy Bear' and did the movements with our teddy bear or suffed animal. The kids loved it. It was great. Here is the link to the song so that the students can show you the song


Grade 2
We worked on the book 'Sneezy the snowman' who was a cold snowman. He wanted to get warmer so decided to go in the hot tub, drink hot chocolate and go by a fire. Unfortunately, he melted and had to be made new again. So his friends had to find a solution to help him stay warm. We then had to categorize different things in the hot and cold column. reading this book is always a hit and they love it!.

Grade 3
We worked on learning the vocabulary for our final copy we will write in a class or two. We will be writing a little text.

Week of January 14th to 18th

Grade 1
This week we read the book There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, a classic! The kids love this book! We laughed at the old lady that eats too many animals! We then make our own old lady brown bag puppet where the kids can have the old lady eat the animals and put them in the bag. This activity is always a favourite for the students. They should be bringing them home today or this week so make sure you ask them to tell you the story with the puppet!
Ps: the grade 1 students are allowed to bring their teddy bear or other stuffed animal to school to their English class. Please read the note found in your child's agenda. Thank you

Grade 2
This week we reread the book The Zoo by Rod Campbell. The book is about a child asking the zoo for the perfect animal. But the zoo send him all sorts of animals that are not appropriate for the kid or for a house! Finally they send the perfect animal! Can you guess what it is?
The kids then have to make their own letter to the zoo asking them what animal they would like.


Grade 3
This week we continued working on prepositions: on, under, in and over. The students had a little listening exercise to make sure they knew their positions. They did well. We are now working on a guess where is my character. The students had to put 4 stick figures on the page and next class they will have to have their partner guess where they put the figures. ex: the stick man is on the volcano, the stick man is under the tree, the stick man in on the rock etc. It will be fun and this will allow me to evaluate oral interaction and comprehension.

Week of January 7th to 11th

Grade 1
Last week we worked on the song '5 little monkeys' from super simple songs. We learned the characters in the song then we learned the movements to the song then we practiced the song twice! It was a lot of fun! Here is the link to the song if you want to practice it with your kids! ENJOY!

Grade 2
Last week the students and I read the story 'The pigeon needs a bath' from Mo Willems. The book is about a pigeon who makes a million excuses to NOT take a bath! It is really a cute and fun book that the kids enjoy! I then asked them to draw how and what they like to do in the bath. Some students like hot water and love to play with their brother or sister, some like cold water and just like to relax in their bath. They will finish this project then share with the rest of the class.

Grade 3
 Last week we worked on the verbs we will see in the new unit Super Powers. So we saw action verbs like walk, run, climb, push, pull, lift etc. The students will need to know them and what they mean as they will need to use them in their final task. The students really are working well and it is a very nice group. Keep up the good work!
