week of October 21st to 25th

Grade 1
This week we worked on the song Knock Knock trick or treat by Super Simple Songs. The kids then coloured a mask about the different costumes we saw in the songs. I then tied their mask and they got to bring them home.

Grade 2
This week we worked on the book I want a Monster By Elise Gravel. The book is about a little girl who wants a pet monster. It is very cute! The kids will then be working on their own monster they would like to have using the vocabulary we saw in the text. They will then have to draw their monster.

Grade 3
This week was the writing part of the unit we have been working on. The kids had to write their own creature. We worked on the rough draft, then I corrected it and now the kids should be finishing their good copy and drawing by next Wednesday. This too will be a grade that will be used for the second report card. It was a bit difficult for some students but we will be practicing with more texts from now till March.

Week of October 14th to 18th

Grade 1
This week we worked on our Halloween theme with the book There was an old lady who swallowed a Bat. The kids learned words like goblin, witch, cat, wizard etc. We then did an activity to review what we saw and understood of the story. The kids were great and really enjoyed the book.

Grade 2
This week we read the book Monsters love Colours. The kids reviewed the primary colours then by mixing two colours together they can make another colour. The students saw that yellow and blue make green, blue and red make purple and that red and yellow make orange. The kids then had to chose their two colours to mix and colour their own monster.

Grade 3
This week we had a little reading comprehension evaluation. We read the story twice then, worked on on the vocabulary and the meaning of the text. The kids then did the test after the second reading of the text and most of the students did really well. This test will count in the 2nd report card so they will have more evaluations added to bring up their grade if they had a hard time on the first test.

week of October 7th to 11th

Grade 1
This week we read the story Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman. It is the story of a witch who wants to eat pumpkin pie and plants a pumpkin seed. A big pumpkin grows and it is time to cultivate it. She pulls, pulls, pulls on the pumpkin but it does not come off the vine. Ask your kids who comes next to help her pull her pumpkin from the vine. Will she ever be able to eat pumpkin pie?

Grade 2
This week we worked on the story Monsters go to School. We looked at the behavior that monsters have in school and the behavior kids should have in school. The kids had to then categorize the correct behavior. They did really well.

Grade 3
This week we are preparing for a reading comprehension activity. We read the text one time and the kids had to use their reading strategies to understand the text. We will reread the text another time then they will have a reading comprehension test that I will be evaluating. I am sure they will do really well.

Have a great end of the week!

Enjoy!

Grade 2
This week we worked on school rules and what we can or can't do in school. We read the book David Goes to School by David Shannon. It is a great book that the kids always love to look at and listen to. David is always making bad choices and he is getting in trouble at school. I have the students tell me 'Yes David ' or 'No David' during the reading. They are very good! Then we did an activity page where the kids had to circle the correct behaviour and put an X on the bad behaviour. They did very well.

Grade 3
This week we continued working on our body parts and we are building the vocabulary to write our text. Some of the classes also worked on adjectives to use with their body parts as to add information to their text to make it richer and more interesting. The kids are doing very well and I'm really enjoying the groups!

Have a great weekend
